Maryland added more than 2,300 new COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, the second highest one-day increase since the pandemic began. The state has had more than 1,000 new COVID-19 cases daily for 17 straight days and more than 2,000 new daily cases for four straight days.
The 7-day positivity rate topped 7% for the second day in a row. That rate has topped 5% for 12 consecutive days and has topped 6% for seven days in a row.
The number of patients currently hospitalized topped 1,000 for the fourth straight day. There are slightly more than 1,200 hospitalized patients, the highest total since May 30.
