The Democratic Central Committee of Kent County condemns the actions of domestic terrorists at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021. On a day that expected a confirmation of the peaceful transfer of power – the very basis of American democracy – the actions and words of one deranged person brought harm to our nation. The men and women involved with this assault on our democracy brought shame to our great country. Not since the War of 1812 have we seen our sacred halls of government attacked and desecrated to this extent. In 1814 we were under siege by a foreign invader with allegiance to a delusional king reigning an ocean away. Today in 2021, domestic terrorists, fellow countrymen in fact, stormed our nation’s Capitol under the direction and allegiance to a delusional man two blocks away.
While the perpetrators involved in Wednesday’s violence must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law we must not forget who led them to their actions. Donald Trump has brought great shame to our country over the last four years but his actions and words on January 6 crossed every moral and ethical line. He deliberately and with intent whipped up the emotions of his supporters and set them loose on our nation’s Capitol. The shocking results should not have surprised anyone. Because of Trump’s words and actions, five Americans are now dead, killed because of the terrorist storming. His narcissistic and delusional lies and mistruths spewed solely for his own benefit and without regard for the laws and Constitution of the United State are responsible for these deaths. The dead lie at Trump’s feet. Donald Trump must be removed from office.
To those in Congress who support Trump in his despicable effort to overturn the will of the American people, we call shame upon you. Shame, too, upon the Republican Party that consistently has supported Donald Trump and stood by as he has sullied the laws and reputation of the United States. We heap special shame on our deplorable representative, Andrew Harris. With total disregard to the laws and customs of our country, he has embraced the president’s lies and has consistently lied himself. We call on him to resign.

Amen!
Gren Whitman says
Now that the failed-coup stage of Trump’s presidency is over, what’s next?
Earl Runde says
What are you going to do to unseat Andy Harris?
George Hardy says
Well said.
Carol Casey says
If only Harris could experience shame.

Never in my imagination would I have ever thought America would I have thought our Country would be in such a teramole, My parents immigrated from Europe to give their children a chance to live in such a great country as ours. for the last four years I believe we were stuck to the news because our President put himself in front of country and the Republican party is complicit in this action, they allowed him to divide this great country because of political self interest instead of what is best of America. Donald Trump could have been a successful president if he just did not cater to his base and tried to do a better job of united the country instead of dividing it. I for one will be glad when the new administration takes over and hopefully they will administer to what is best for America and not the party, for those who desiccated our democracy crated the rule of law they should be prosecuted to the maximum sentence under the Law.. it is time for us to stand together and not allow the minority to dictated the the majority, America was build under one nation indivisible and justice for all, May God protect us all.
Melinda Bookwalter says
Louis,
Thank you so much for your perspective as a person of immigrant parents who,if still living, must be incredibly shocked as are we all. And it is people like them and you who work hard to keep the “American Dream” going forward.
Kevin Blimline says
Face it. The Republican Party has been on life support since Nixon. Reagan brought it back from the dead only due to the Iran hostage crisis, which was exacerbated by Reagan people talking to Iran to keep the hostages until Reagan took office.
Sounds like Trump talking to the Russians, doesn’t it?
The bottom line is that the American people don’t like Republican policies, but they will accept them when fed a large dose of fear. That fear is:
Immigrants taking our jobs.
Chinese taking our jobs.
By 2045 white people will no longer be the majority of Americans.
The Republican solution is reactionary in nature and provides simplistic solutions like building a wall, tariffs for Chinese goods, and inflammatory rhetoric against anyone in America who is not white.
Guess what? America is a work in progress. It always has been.
You can grow and prosper as we reinvent ourselves, or you can stay behind.
I think Trumpers have already made their choice. They will stay behind as America moves on.
As Trump would put it: SAD!
Patricia Heaps says
Oh my God! I’ve read and heard Donald Trump’s words on that day. “Whipped up emotion”? No, that would be your “side” that runs everything by feelings. People were objecting to a fraud election but since it was Trump supporters and their focus wasn’t racial justice, it was an insurrection? The will of the American people was shown on November 3 but the absence of an honest media coupled with hatred (and now a purge of conservative thought on social media), people will fight back. As Chris Cuomo said, “Who says protests are supposed to be peaceful?” Kamala Harris called for uprisings in the streets and even bailed them out – after they destroyed businesses and lives.
So clutch your pearls a little tighter. When you cut out a man’s tongue, you don’t prove him a liar. You show you’re afraid of what he might know and say.
John Ramsey says
Pray tell? Does this mean you actually believe that the Democrats stole the election? So the institutions of democracy, from election boards to the Supreme Court are not to believed? But you believe Trump? Not much to stand on there.
You say you heard his words as he whipped up the crowd. He said.,”And after this, we’re going to walk down, and I’ll be there with you.” I guess it was the crowd’s fault that they believed him. He watched on TV.
I’ve heard that the truth will set you free. If you separate yourself from the fog of Trump, it might hurt at first, but it just might save the country.
