The Leagues of Women Voters of Kent and Queen Anne’s Counties will hold a forum for District 36 Republican Primary Election candidates for the State Legislature — Senate and House of Delegates. (N.B.: Democratic candidates will not be included in this forum because there is no contest among the Democrats; all of the Democratic candidates will be included on the General Election ballot).
The forum will be held on Thursday, May 29, 6:30 PM, at the Queen Anne’s County Board of Education Office, 202 Chesterfield Ave., Centreville. The forum will be held in two sessions: from 6:30 until 7 PM State Senate incumbent Steve Hershey will debate challenger Dick Sossi; and from 7:15 until 8:30 PM incumbent Delegates Steve Arentz, Jay Jacobs, and Mike Smigiel will debate challengers Jeff Ghrist, Rod Heinze, Alan McCarthy, and J.D. Uhler.
The audience will be encouraged to ask questions of the candidates.

Editor,
Please understand that I have declined the invitation to the aforementioned forum well in advance. I appreciate the invitation however I am not seeking an endorsement from their organization. My goals and priorities at this point is to maximize our efforts by reaching out to as many voters as possible going into the “Republican” primary election, and their is a lot of work to be done in all 4 counties. With that said, it is equally important that the League of Women Voters for Kent & Queen Anne’s Counties know that I sincerely appreciate their devotion to public service and I am honored to have been invited.

Editor,
I apologize on behalf of the League of Women Voters of Kent County — as Mr. Uhler indicated, he did indeed decline our invitation to appear in tonight’s forum several weeks ago. Unfortunately his name was inadvertently included in a later press release submitted by me to The Spy. We are sorry for the confusion this has caused.
We do appreciate Mr. Uhler’s words about our devotion to public service, but we must clarify that the League of Women Voters never endorses political candidates or parties. Our forums are held to give the public an opportunity to learn about the candidates and their views.
Sincerely yours,
Jane W. Hardy, Co-President, League of Women Voters of Kent County
