Redner’s newest store in Camden, Delaware — set to open soon.

Redner’s  Markets, which operates 44 grocery stores in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania is still looking to bring a store to Chestertown.

Although Redner’s Spokesman Eric White would not discuss details of any ongoing negotiations, he said the chain’s CEO, Richard Redner, has been considering Chestertown for sometime.

“Mr. Redner has always been hopeful to get a store in the area,” White said. He said there have been numerous inquiries from local residents about plans to bring a store to Chestertown.

“I can’t disclose any information other than we do remain interested,  and hopefully we will be able to put a Redner’s in the Chestertown area,” White said.

The Spy has learned that Redner’s has been negotiating with the owner of Washington Plaza Shopping Center, Dennis Silicato. The negotiations include discussion of improvements to the former Fresh & Greens store — but other locations are being considered by the employee owned chain.

    Editor,

This has to be the worst kept secret in many moons. Redners employees own stock in the company but have no ownership voice in the company. They have a format that is warehouse style. Their meat is ok and the produce is some times from local sources. The Deli is below par from Acme as is its meat department. Customer service is good and the store will be clean. They are good employers and offer good benefits, a 401K( non matching),no time and half on Sunday, and a profit sharing bonus program. The store itself will be cookie cutter.

Mr Redner is a good businessman and will not put himself into a bad lease or into a bad location. If the chain does go in they will completely gut the current building and start brand new The town will go from to out dated dumps to having a Brand new Acme with all the bells and whistles and a new Redners. Not bad at all!

We have been going to Redners since it opened in Dover where the SuperFresh used to be. It is clean; has open, uncluttered wide aisles, fair prices, and good customer service. I have written to Mr. Redner several times about opening in C’town, and once about the jet-plane sounding hand dryers in the women’s restroom: deafening for adults, and for children? He replied to each letter. I do hope Redners comes to our town. We need some competition, friendly, polite employees, and a clean store. I will continue to shop at the Food Lion in Millington though. They carry things I can’t get at the Acme, and their staff is very pleasant.

    Editor,

As a regular shopper at the Redners in Elkton, I can highly recommend the potential location of a Redners in Chestertown. Excellent prices, top quality produce and meats, and very friendly, customer-oriented service from the staff. I, too, had occasion to contact Mr. Redner– regarding their gasoline discount points program that saves me a whole lot of $ on gas station purchases– and was pleased with the responsiveness and genuine customer care provided by Mr. Redner’s staff. Chestertown would be well served, and lucky, to get such an excellent community-oriented market as Redners. Now if only the local government and real estate owners can do all possible to assist and expedite a Redners opening in the area…
