The popular Empty Bowls banquet to benefit the Kent County Food Pantry returns Monday, March 31, for its fifth year. Held at the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theater, the event begins at 5:30 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. and reservations are required.
The Washington College Service Council is hosting Empty Bowls in partnership with the Office of Student Development, the sisters of Alpha Chi Omega, and Chestertown RiverArts.
At the banquet, guests will be served a simple meal of soup and bread donated by Washington College Dining Services and Evergrain Bakery. After the dinner, each guest will take home a hand-crafted bowl made by local potters to serve as a reminder of all of the ‘empty bowls’ in the world. The creation of the keepsake bowls was spearheaded by RiverArts clay instructor Marilee Schumann, who worked with her clay students, Washington College student volunteers, and members of the Chestertown RiverArts Board of Directors.
A silent auction will raise funds for the Food Pantry’s backpack program, which provides supplemental weekend meals for elementary and middle school children whose families can’t always provide enough food.
