The Cordish Companies today announced that Acme, their anchor tenant, has signed a new lease to expand from 25,000 square feet to 41,000. At the same time, Cordish is promising $1 million dollars to upgrade the Kent Shopping Center, which is nearly 50-years-old.
“This is very exciting news for the community, and we look forward to working with The Cordish Companies to facilitate the expansion of Acme and the upgrades to the Kent Plaza Shopping Center,” said Mayor Chris Cerino in a joint press release with the Cordish on Friday.
David Cordish, Chairman of The Cordish Companies, praised Cerino and Washington College President Mitchell Reiss for their support of the community.

Do we know when that upgrade/construction will start for the Acme and the shopping center?

Size doesn’t matter. A company that doesn’t know how to train or schedule employees is not what we need. Why would you promote Philadelphia Eagles merchandise in Maryland? Size doesn’t matter.

Editor,
Look at it this way. it is a chain with only five Maryland locations. It would cost a small fortune to localize agreements with Baltimore and the Ny Giants teams for the few stores it would touch. On the other hand no local Maryland chain would touch Chestertown or invest $5 million or so dollars to renovate this store. Remember this is a business and can only afford so many hours of time a week and pay the help a living wage with good benefits and still make a profit. The present building only has 5 registers and 3 slicers. Man them and that is all you can do. The new stores will have space to expand the front end and the service departments.

I believe at present time Cordish is number one developer in county. We should ask for his help in developing waterfront. He has a top team on staff to create Class A projects Would like to hear what they would recommend for waterfront.
