Downtown Chestertown Association President Nancy McGuire has announced the slate of nominees to lead the organization and said she will not seek a third term.
“New blood and new ideas often create new opportunities,” McGuire said at Monday’s council meeting. “It keeps an organization fresh and alert. Therefore, I will not be running for president this next term.” McGuire said she would remain on the board as a past-president for two years.
McGuire forecasted a “seamless” transition.
The slate of nominees:
Kristen Owen, President
Barbara Jorgenson, First Vice President
Robert Ortiz, Second Vice President
Kate Bursick, Secretary
Robert Ramsey, Treasurer
The official vote will take place at the Occasions Catering Board Room on Feb. 20. McGuire formally invited the mayor and council to attend.
In one of her last official appearances as president, McGuire recommended solutions to the parking problem, better marketing of Chestertown and the creation of a discretionary fund available to the council to support volunteer organizations.
McGuire lays out her recommendations in the video below.

Editor,
There are few people who have worked as hard to promote business in downtown Chestertown as Nancy McGuire. As a property owner downtown, I have always known that Nancy welcomed my telephone calls to discuss happenings and concerns and have taken great comfort in knowing that she would represent the interests of the community. The community has benefitted by countless hours of Nancy’s time and leadership, often with little recognition, as she has worked to make the street scape more beautiful. I am extremely thankful to Nancy for her selfless dedication to Chestertown. I am even more thankful that, knowing Nancy, she will not fade away and her affection for and dedication to Chestertown will continue.
