The University of Maryland Extension welcomes Xaviera Davis as a Food Supplement Nutrition Educator for the mid-shore region. Xaviera will be providing nutrition education for the following counties: Caroline, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot. Xaviera will be collaborating with community organizations: the public school systems, Judy Centers, parks and recreation programs, senior centers, to provide nutrition education for low-income children, youth, families and seniors.
Xaviera received her Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Delaware with a Major in Applied Nutrition and a Minor in Biology. Currently, she is pursuing a graduate degree in Public Administration from Wilmington University. She has over 10 years of experience as nutrition professional and has worked in a variety of healthcare settings with individuals across the life-span as well as persons from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
Over the years, particularly while working in the area of long-term care Xaviera has had the opportunity to witness the devastating and debilitating effects of chronic health conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, and Coronary Artery Disease. As a nutrition educator she knows that in many instances the onset of these diseases can be delayed or prevented by making dietary and lifestyle modifications. She has focused her interest on providing nutrition education and promoting disease prevention to vulnerable populations. She has a strong interest in programs that address childhood obesity and reducing health disparities. Her goal is to raise awareness about the health and quality of life benefits one can achieve by adopting healthier eating habits and an overall healthy lifestyle. Mid
