Horizons at Radcliffe Creek School 2012 has started! This successful program to reduce summer learning loss among low income public school students is bigger than ever, and is currently accepting applications for an Executive Director.
Thanks to the Dances with Stars fundraiser and other committed donors, the program has been expanded to include the sixth grade, and enrollment at all grade levels is full.
This K-6th grade program provides critical academic instruction combined with swimming lessons at the Community Center, field trips, arts and enrichment activities for six weeks. There is no better indicator of the programs success than the growth in the number of students enrolled; our local Horizon’s chapter has grown by 22% since last year, now serving 79 children who are recommended to the program by their teachers and guidance counselors.
Horizons is seeking a part time, year round Executive Director to work with the Academic Director and the Advisory Board to support the continued success of the program through fundraising, public relations, community outreach, and administrative leadership.
Horizons at Radcliffe Creek School is one of 26 affiliates of Horizons National (www.horizonsnational.org), an award-winning learning program serving low-income public school students on campuses of independent schools and colleges. Programming occurs primarily in the summer, however there are also gatherings on weekends during the school year to foster the continued commitment of students and families to the program.
Horizons is housed at Radcliffe Creek School (www.radcliffecreekschool.org) but is separate from the school. The program’s success can be traced to many factors such as the talented Horizons faculty, enthusiastic participating families, an award winning approach to summer learning, and the support of local donors and partners including Kent County Public Schools, Kent County Parks and Recreation, Washington College, Echo Hill Outdoor School and many others in addition to Radcliffe Creek School.
Individuals interested in learning more about leadership opportunities with Horizons should email [email protected], or write to Horizons at PO Box 615 Chestertown MD, 21620.
