Organizers of Kent School’s spring fundraising event are adding a fresh touch to the school’s annual fundraiser. Typically, Kent School hosts a silent and live auction. Nicole Wagner, Kent School alumnus, parent and dedicated volunteer said, “This year we are giving the auction concept a rest. We felt there was fatigue among the businesses and individuals who donate each year and with our guests. This year we are trying something different. Although there will be a few special items and packages to bid on, the primary fundraising will be more direct, concentrated and faster. This lets our guests get onto the dance floor much earlier.”
In addition to the core fundraising portion of the night, Kent School’s 2016 Gala: It’s Prom Night! features several “couples” who are vying for the much heralded title of King and Queen of the Prom. Each couple has adopted a persona or identity and they will solicit votes in the form of dollars. The couple receiving the greatest number of votes will be awarded the title of Prom King and Queen along with crown, tiara, scepter and sash.
The Kent School Prom Court is comprised of a variety of community members. Kent School parents, Chrissy Chisolm and Mimmo Fevola, owner of Luisa’s Restaurant are attending the prom as Jazz Age Flappers incorporating all the flair and sparkle associated with the Roaring 20’s. Kent School Athletic Director Erin Kent is paired with Todd Gillespie ’83 of Gillespie and Son. These Disco Divas are bringing a case of Saturday Night Fever to the prom. Kent School graduates Griff Reed ’89 and Liddy Campbell ‘98 are pairing up to bring back the 1980’s. Look for big hair and 80’s Prom Styles. The 2016 Prom would not be complete without the appearance of a pair of political powerhouses Megan Owings ’93 and Karl Zierfuss ’90 who will make their prom debut as none other than Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. They even have their own press secretary who provided the following statement:
“This is going to be the most winning the Kent School has ever done,” said Donald Trump Zierfuss. “Kent School is going to win so much during the Prom Night that people will get tired of winning. We’re going to build a YUGE! wall around the Kent School that will keep everyone at Kent School’s Prom Night all night long! This wall will be beautiful and will be painted by Zierfuss Painting & Restoration. It will be the strongest and most beautiful painted wall in the history of Maryland. WE WILL MAKE KENT SCHOOL’S PROM NIGHT GREAT!”
“Your one dollar donation will help not only my campaign – it will help women all over the Eastern Shore,” said Hillary Bramble Clinton. “I ask all of you to put on your best pant suit and stand beside me arm-in-arm to shatter the glass ceiling for our daughters and granddaughters.”
***Special incentive – the first $1,000 raised by votes for the Donald & Hillary will be matched by the Owings-Zierfuss Super PAC, “C.A.S.H.” (Casey Already Sneaking Home).
The fifth pair vying for the title is future Kent School parent, Rob Thompson of Chesapeake Bank and Trust and Lena Cantera, Kent School parent and past President of the Parent Association. Their alter egos are Popeye and Olive Oil. Guests are warned to guard their spinach as this pair bulks up for the competition.
Tricia Cammerzell, Director of Development and Admission said, “We are truly grateful that these individuals are putting themselves out there in support of Kent School. This event is still our most important fundraising event of the year. Even though it is with a terrific sense of humor, they are doing important work on behalf of all our students and teachers. Proceeds support all facets of our school budget including financial assistance and educational program improvement. We hope members of the school community and beyond will support their efforts by voting.” Voters may cast their votes by texting the word KENT to 71760 or by visiting www.kentschool.org/development. Checks, cash and credit card are also accepted. Contact [email protected] for more information.
The public is invited to the Kent School Prom on April 16. Tickets are $100 per person and include heavy hors d’oeuvres, a raw bar, open bar and live music. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. Cammerzell continued, “We are really looking forward to a fun night and we are very excited about this change.”
