On Wednesday, February 24th, the Washington College Academy of Lifelong Learning (WC-ALL) invites the community to enjoy lunch and a fascinating lecture
about the College’s Chesapeake Semester, an interdisciplinary study of North America’s largest estuary, our very own Chesapeake Bay. During the Chesapeake
Semester a select group of students spend 15 weeks of intense study examining the complex history, ecology and culture of the Bay using the shores and waters
of the Chester River as base camp.
Field trips also take the students to Peru and the Caribbean to discover what special characteristics and issues are common to coastal communities in varied parts of the world.
Michael Hardesty, Assistant Director, Washington College Center for Environment & Society, will focus his presentation on shared environmental controversies that students and faculty have unearthed during their investigations. Learn more about this unique program that immerses students in local environmental topics while it seeks to create “student-citizen-leaders” for the 21st century.
The luncheon begins at noon, followed by Mike Hardesty’s lecture, “The Chesapeake Semester: An Investigation of Environmental Controversies,” in the Hynson Lounge, located in Hodson Hall, on the College campus. The cost for WC-ALL members is $15; other members of the community $20. Pre-paid reservations are required and must be received by Thursday, February 18; make checks payable to WC-ALL and send to WC-ALL, 300 Washington Avenue, Chestertown, MD 21620. Please include name, telephone number and email address. For further information, contact the WC-ALL office at 410-778-7221.
