KCHS Job Shadowing Program
Kent County High School Conducted an annual, two-week job shadowing program in May that provides and opportunity for students in the STEM (science technology, engineering, mathematics) program to meet with professionals in these disciplines. These professionals provide an inside view into the day-to-day responsibilities within a given profession and identify promising specialty areas within the field. They go over the educational requirements necessary to enter the profession and provide insight into future opportunities. They offer crucial information for students considering a particular career, such as whether job opportunities in the field are growing or shrinking, and if particular skills are vulnerable to being outsourced to other countries or replaced with computer-driven technologies or robots. The job shadowing program is vital for young students striving to relate their academic studies to real world careers. The program helps students form realistic expectations at a pivotal point in their education when they are beginning to envision their own career paths.
