Julie Marie Wade to Read at Rose O’Neill Literary House October 2

Poet Julie Marie Wade

Poet and memoirist Julie Marie Wade will read on October 2, 2014 at 4:30 p.m. at the Rose O’Neill Literary House, 407 Washington Avenue. The event is part of the Living Writers Series at Washington College and is free and open to the public.

Wade’s works of poetry and lyric nonfiction span several books and collections, including Wishbone: A Memoir in Fractures (Colgate University Press, 2010; Bywater Books, 2014), Without: Poems (Finishing Line Press, 2010), Small Fires: Essays (Sarabande Books, 2011), Postage Due: Poems & Prose Poems (White Pine Press, 2013), Tremolo: An Essay (Bloom Books, 2013), and most recently When I Was Straight: Poems (A Midsummer Night’s Press, 2014).  Her work has been described as “lush, post-confessional poems … unabashed in their desire, tentative then bold in their knowledge.”

A seven-time Pushcart Prize nominee for poetry and creative nonfiction, she is also the recipient of an Al Smith Individual Artist Fellowship from the State of Kentucky (2010) and a Lambda Literary Award for Lesbian Memoir (2011). 

She completed a master’s degree in English at Western Washington University, a master of fine arts degree in poetry at the University of Pittsburgh, and a Ph.D. in interdisciplinary humanities at the University of Louisville.

Wade is an assistant professor of English at Florida International University, Miami, where she teaches in the graduate creative writing program.  Her reading at the Lit House will be followed by a question and answer session, then a book sale and signing.
