The Spy has heard word through Facebook that the beloved Brooks Tavern on High Street extension will be succeeded by a Japanese restaurant in the very near future.
Brooks, whose owners Barbara and Kevin will close the restaurant this fall, reported on their friends email blast that “Tony Wong, who owns Café Sado on Kent Island, has signed a lease with Radcliffe for our space in the Mill, effective October 1 2014. He plans to open a branch of his popular Asian restaurant later this fall in the Radcliffe Mill. Meanwhile our last day of service will be September 20th. Thanks for your continued support.”
Wow.

As sad as I am to see Barbara and Kevin retiring (though they certainly deserve it), I am thrilled that there will continue to be an option that isn’t a Sysco-fueled, mediocre, americana or faux-italian restaurant! Brooks was hands down the best restaurant in Chestertown, let’s hope that Mr. Wong can keep up that same caliber of service and delicious food (it would be cool to see local fish on the menu!).

Thanks for the kind words, but there are two corrections that need to be made here. First of all, Kevin and I are not retiring, although that sure would be nice. We will be opening a small (non-restaurant) business at our old outpost in Kennedyville in the near future.
Secondly, the quote above is taken from an email sent out to our regular customers on Monday to give them a heads up, before people starting reporting rumors. Since no one from the Spy has actually spoken to us, I wanted to clarify matters to your readers.

I will miss Brooks Tavern as it was fine dining at it’s best. All the best to Barbara and Kevin. I’m not a fan of sushi but I do love all of the other offerings Cafe’ Sado will bring to Chestertown. Authentic Asian/Thai cuisine is a God send!

PS: Traveled to Café Sado as expected a great Bday dinner with my bride and 3 boys and the food was superb. I then asked for Mr. Tony Wong and to my surprise there he was so I introduced myself and welcomed him and Café Sado to Chestertown and Kent County on behalf of all the great people of KENT. He is a very humble individual and thanked us for having open arms and supporting his new adventure. CAN”T WAIT!!!!!!!!
