Eastern Shore performers, the Pam Ortiz Band, returns to the Avalon Theatre’s Stolz Listening Room Friday, August 22 at 8:00 p.m. for an intimate performance of original music. A resident of Chestertown, Pam Ortiz, who fronts the band, writes songs in a range of genres from blues to folk, ballads to bluegrass, and even a little jazz, her music resonates with authentic roots and strong lyrics.
Pam Ortiz is that rare songwriter who can touch people where they feel deeply, where they laugh and where they cry. She did that for 10 years with the group Terra Nova in the ’90s playing to packed coffee houses in the mid-Atlantic region. Her songs were showcased in the three albums that the vocal group recorded. In the last three years, she has returned to performing in the accompaniment of a few old and new friends from the Eastern Shore. She’s back with new songs, new stories…with her signature clear voice, turn of phrase and melody. Songs that speak of who we are, what we’ve won and lost, how we love and live.
In addition to Ortiz, the Pam Ortiz Band also includes Pam’s husband, Bob Ortiz, on percussion and guitar. Ford Schumann on guitar, Nevin Dawson on viola and violin and Philip Dutton on piano and keyboards. Their strong musicality provides the perfect complement to Ortiz’ thoughtful and dynamic songs.
