This year’s Music in the Park concert series starts this Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 7:00 pm in Fountain Park in downtown Chestertown. Admission is free.
Two popular local groups will perform. Leading off the evening will be the Garfield Gang playing classic folk and rock tunes such as “My Bucket’s Got a Hole In It”, “Don’t Think Twice” and “Drift Away” from a wide array of artists including Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Chuck Berry, and Bonnie Raitt. For this performance, the band will consist of Barbara Parker, Ford Schumann, and Peter Heck on guitar & vocals with Mary Simmons providing vocal harmonies and solos.
Second on the bill is Driven Women with Annie Williams on guitar; Sue Shumaker on fiddle; and Diane Jones on banjo. The band performs a wonderful mix of old-time mountain music along with traditional blues and jazz.
The concert will last between one and a half and two hours. Bring something to sit on. Only limited seating is available. Rain location: Emmanuel Episcopal Church – 101 N. Cross St. across from the park.
These free programs are sponsored by the Town of Chestertown with support from The Kent County Arts Council & Community Contributors. To help make these programs possible, please send donations payable to the Town of Chestertown and designated for “Music in the Park,” to 118 N. Cross Street, Chestertown, MD 21620.
