Encore Creativity for Older Adults will sponsor its 7th Annual Maryland Summer Choral Institute at Washington College in Chestertown MD from June 15-19, and invites the Chestertown and surrounding community to free concert events during the week. All concerts take place in the Gibson Center for Performing Arts on the campus of Washington College.
On Sunday, June 15 at 7:30pm, featured artists of Opera AACC will perform selections from their upcoming production of Carmen. The opera company, sponsored by Anne Arundel County Community College, features professional singers as well as up-and-coming young talent who perform together in two operas each year.
On Monday, June 16 at 7:30pm, Encore will feature accomplished Soprano, Krystal Rickard McCoy in concert. Ms. McCoy is a singer, choral conductor, and music educator. She will present a selection of favorite pieces from opera, operetta, Broadway, and the American Song Book.
On Tuesday, June 17 at 7:30pm, Douglas Byerly, Baritone, will present “A Song in My Heart” featuring Broadway and jazz favorites by Gershwin, Porter, Bernstein, and more. Mr. Byerly is well-known to the Washington College community as he serves as a conductor and vocal instructor at the College.
The Encore Chorale, with 75 singers, will perform in concert on Thursday, June 19 at 2:00pm as a finale performance to the choral institute. The music will include Haydn’s Gloria (from the Heiligmesse), Sing by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Gary Barlow, which was written for Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee, Someone to Watch Over Me by Ira and George Gershwin, and other inspiring pieces.
