Lucia Foster, the Garfield Center’s artistic director has announced she will be leaving shortly. The Spy received a letter to the The Garfield Center for the Arts (GCA) community from Jim Landskroener, Board President:
It is with deep regret and personal sadness that I notify you of the resignation of Lucia Foster. Most of you know that Lucia began working for the theater almost eight years ago and that she has served as our Producing Artistic Director for the past eighteen months.
Although we are all disheartened to contemplate Lucia’s departure, we must also celebrate her outstanding legacy. Her commitment to the theater and our broader community is unparalleled. She has touched the lives of an incredible number of people in a relatively short amount of time. She has been the “face of the theater” for many years, and in that capacity has brought only goodwill and high praise to everything the organization stands for.
One of her greatest strengths was in working as an educator here at the theater, in the public schools, and at Washington College. She has had a profound effect on hundreds of young lives, and they will be forever enriched by Lucia’s passion and mentorship.
Lucia has also been instrumental in creating and guiding the growing staff at the theater, a staff which is clearly in position for an exciting future. In her letter to the Board of Trustees, Lucia noted that she is “confident that the theater is now poised better than ever before to build on the creative investments and relationships that we have nurtured over the years.”
Lucia is a young woman of extraordinary talent and unique abilities. In my personal discussions with her over the past few days, it is clear to me that though this was a difficult decision, it is one that comes from her desire for personal and professional growth.
The Board, staff, volunteers and GCA community are grateful for her outstanding service to an organization which we all want to succeed, thrive and grow. We know that she will bring to her next endeavor the kind of drive, skill and passion that has been so fundamental to our mission.

Editor,
I am sorry to hear that Lucia will be leaving the theatre. She was indeed the face and voice of the Prince Theatre while it was going through various recent transitions (resignation of the Executive Director, lobby renovation project, theatre name change, etc.). Thank you Lucia for your dedication and commitment to the theatre and our community.
God bless!
