The Chestertown Recreation Commission is excited to announce a new annual event for families in Chestertown. On Saturday October 26, Memorial Park on High & Cross Streets will become the Chestertown Pumpkin Patch.
The event will include Pumpkin Painting & Carving for kids, (and adults), homemade scarecrow making, a pumpkin dessert bake contest (prizes for best pie and most unique dessert) and games and activities for all ages. Among the games and contests, the bocce phenomenon that has taken Wilmer Park by storm will roll into downtown with with pumpkins serving as bocce balls, as well as a Pumpkin Putt Putt golf course set up on Park Row. A Pumpkin Derby, (like the Pinewood Derby) track will allow young engineering and design enthusiasts to bring a ‘hot rod’ pumpkin on wheels to race for glory. (pre-assembly required).
Prizes will be awarded for fasted time and most creative design. Kids will also have a chance to press their own apples into a working cider press and taste the sweetness of the autumn season. Entertainment will include Ghost Stories of Kent by the Historical Society and a live music performance by MusicLife. The Pumpkin Patch events will run from 10am – 3pm.
As the sun sets, all the carved jack-o-lanterns will be lit and illuminate the park just in time for a special Movies in the Park presentation of “Its the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” for our younger viewers at 6:30pm followed by “Beetlejuice” at 7pm. The movies will be located in Fountain Park.
(The rain date for the Pumpkin Patch will be the following Saturday after the Halloween Parade on Nov 2 and Sunday Oct 27 for the movies)
The annual parking meter scarecrow contest has also fallen under the umbrella of the CRC and anyone interested in staking out a specific meter or that wishes to enter the contest, please reach out to the Commission thru our email address or facebook page. Contest winners will be announced on Oct 28.
The Rec Commission is not ending its programming with the change of the seasons, upcoming winter programming will include family game nights and
trivia nights for grownups.
