The Hedgelawn Classical Music series brings soprano Stacey Mastrian to sing “Songs of La Bella Italia” at the Mainstay in Rock Hall, MD on Sunday October 6 at 4:00 p.m. She will be accompanied by pianist Scott Crowne. Tickets are $15. For information and reservations call 410-639-9133. Information is also available at the Mainstay’s website https://www.mainstayrockhall.org.

Screen Shot 2013-09-26 at 7.26.04 AMStacey Mastrian, who has been called a “sweet shimmering soprano” by the Washington Post, has been studying and performing 20th- and 21st-century Italian vocal music on both sides of the Atlantic since 2001. She is dedicated to making it known through her recitals, lectures and recordings.

She will be accompanied by Scott Crowne on piano for a selection of 20th and 21st century songs from and about Italy. This will be a journey from satirical to silly to sublime, with skillfully crafted texts by poetic greats such as Dante, de’ Medici, Petrarch, and da Vinci.

During the 2009-2010 season Ms. Mastrian was a Young Artist with Opera Lafayette, performing in Charpentier’s “Les arts florissants” at the Kennedy Center. The 2011 season marked her debut at Teatro La Fenice in Venice, performing in Luigi Nono’s opera “Intolleranza 1960” for the 50th anniversary of the work’s premiere. As 2013 Winner of the Respighi Prize Competition, she will debut with the Chamber Orchestra of New York in 2014. She appears on two recent releases by Neuma and has several recording projects in progress. She has performed as a recitalist in locations across the United States, and her performances have been broadcast internationally via internet, radio, and television.

Scott Crowne is much in demand as a collaborative artist, vocal coach, and conductor. A member of the faculty of the Sunderman Conservatory at Gettysburg College, he serves as principal coach for the voice studio and opera workshop. He is also the music director for the Hub Opera Ensemble in Western Maryland where he conducts full productions of standard repertoire. In New York City, he serves as music director for the Resonanz Foundation, a development program for voices of the dramatic fachs. Other engagements as coach/pianist include the Middlebury German for Singers program, BASOTI in San Francisco, the University of Miami festival in Salzburg, the Brevard Music Center, and the Aspen Music Festival. He completed his studies at the University of Maryland (DMA) under the tutelage of Rita Sloan and John Greer in 2007.

The Hedgelawn Classical Music Series at the Mainstay presents three to four concerts a year with funding from the Hedgelawn Foundationwhich provides assistance to area arts, music, educational and other cultural organizations.
