The course is marked and registrations are coming in from near and far as Kent School prepares for its third Osprey Triathlon to be held Saturday, October 5h. Participants are training to bike, kayak and run in support of the School’s need-based scholarship program. “Registrations are coming from local friends of Kent School and from out of town guests. People are coming from Washington, Philadelphia and New Jersey to be a part of this race. It’s good for Kent School and it’s good for Chestertown,” said Chris Gorycki, Headmaster at Kent School.
The Osprey Triathlon course takes advantage of Kent School’s river views and scenic surroundings beginning with a seven-mile bike ride followed by a two-mile kayak paddle and finishing with a three-mile run. The course is flat and fast so experienced athletes will clock great times while younger and less experienced athletes will find it challenging but not overwhelming. “I’m happy that we can offer an event that is inclusive and family friendly,” said race coordinator and Development Director at Kent School, Tricia Cammerzell. Relay teams are developing and repeat racers are hoping to beat last year’s times. New racers will be pleasantly surprised at the course, the level of competition, and the post race picnic.
Racers can register as individuals completing all three legs of the race or they can break the race into smaller segments and register as two or three person relay teams. The race is open to anyone age nine and older. Racers between the ages of 9 and 12 must be part of a relay team with at least one team member age 16 or older. Registration will be open until Friday October 4. Visit www.kentschool.org/osprey-triathlon or www.active.com and search Osprey Triathlon for registration information. Advance registration is appreciated.
Race proceeds benefit Kent School’s need-based financial assistance program. Cammerzell continued, “We are grateful to our race sponsors for underwriting some of the costs associated with this event. Special thanks to our race segment sponsors Gunther McClary, Dukes Moore, Liberty Mutual, Yerkes Construction, and Peoples Bank. Their partnership helps us host a successful event and strengthen our commitment to financial aid for students throughout the community.” For more information about Kent School’s Osprey Triathlon or about Kent School visit www.kentschool.org or call 410-778-4100 ext. 12.
