Roy Crow of Crow Vineyard and Winery, and Al Cassinelli of Cassinelli Winery appeared before the Chestertown Council Monday to get approval to sell wine at the Chestertown Famer’s Market.
Effective June 1, local wineries can sell their vintages at local farmer’s markets but must be listed in the Maryland Department of Agriculture Farmer’s Market Directory, and have permission of the local farmer’s market to sell, according to a new law passed this spring.
The council approved a resolution to instruct Chestertown’s market manager, Owen McCoy, to apply the same rules to wine as all other products sold at the market. The existing rules favor the most local products first — then to vendors beyond Kent County — depending on the availability of space.
Crow and Cassinelli will receive copies of the resolution to fill the state requirement of obtaining local approval.
