Housing costs are creeping up, but bird housing is still reasonable, especially ceramic bird houses built by Georgetown potter Joan Reed. For the last thirty years, Joan has been making whimsical bird baths, bird houses, and sundials, as well as plates, vases, mugs, and other useful items in her studio overlooking the Sassafras River.
Joan, who has lived in Georgetown for forty years, studied ceramics at University of Delaware, Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore, Penland School of Crafts in North Carolina, and Cecil College. She has also studied with Philippe Faraut, a French sculptor who teaches in upstate New York.
