The dynamic and award-winning young musicians of the Axiom Brass Quintet continue the Washington College Community Concert Series on Friday, January 25. Their performance, which will include classical works by Bach and Monteverdi as well as pieces by modern-era composers such as Astor Pizzolla and André Lafosse, is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in the Gibson Center for the Arts on the College Campus.
Tickets to individual concerts ($15, or $5 for youth ages 18 and under) can be purchased at the door or in advance. Washington College students are admitted free with a valid ID.
Internationally recognized for groundbreaking programming, Axiom Brass Quintet features a repertoire ranging from jazz and Latin music to string quartet transcriptions, as well as original compositions for brass quintet. The group is the only brass quintet to win the prestigious Chamber Music Yellow Springs Competition (2012) and the first American ensemble to win the Preis der Europa-Stadt Passau in Germany (2012). It also has earned top honors at brass competitions that include the 2008 International Chamber Brass Competition and the Jeju City International Brass Quintet Competition in South Korea. Axiom has entertained all over the globe, and its educational concerts for young audiences earned a 2011 Fischoff Educator Award.
Since 2011 the ensemble has been featured as brass quintet-in-residence for the National Brass Symposium, sharing the stage with principal brass players from the Chicago Symphony, Boston Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, and Atlanta Symphony. The Quintet is also an Ensemble-in-Residence at the Music Institute of Chicago and at the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.
