Chestertown Police Officer Michelle Leone was sworn in last night by Margo Bailey and will begin patrols December 28—but first she heads to Salisbury with CPD Chief Adrian Baker for her graduation ceremony today at the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy in Salisbury.
“Mayor and Council, it is my pleasure to present to you Michelle Leone,” said CPD Chief Adrian Baker. “She told us she would be outstanding in her Academy class and she certainly was. She did nothing but outstanding things and she made Chestertown very proud.”
Baker said “it was pretty special to be at the beginning of a police officer’s career, and I’m certain there will be great things in her future.”
Leone is a 2009 graduate of Arcadia University, near Philadelphia, where she earned a BA in Health Administration and was an accomplished goalie for the Women’s Soccer Team, the Knights. She shares a record for shutouts—denying goals to eight teams in the 2007 season. She also protected the net for the Knight’s Women’s Lacrosse Team.

Congratulations and welcome. I hope you are willing to look into setting up a gun safety course/s, for all weapons (handgun, rifle, and shotgun) that will be open to everyone old enough to pick up one. I think this course should be especially set up for kids, or anyone at any age not familiar with guns who may gain access to a weapon by whatever means, whether finding one, or being given/loaned one. I would hope such a course would be run at a minimum fee, and work hand in glove with the hunter courses. The NRA is getting a lot of attention right now because of the terrible situation at the school shooting site. To my knowledge, the NRA has always had excellent safety training. I am sure you have been trained in the safe handling or your weapons. I hope you have you been trained in passsing that knowledge to others.

Thomas ,
Great idea but how about you do it?
The lady has been issued a commander who will, I am sure, fill her days with police tasks.
Besides, the 4 H has been offering a course similar to what you describe for years. The MD Hunter Safety Course has been available for years. If there had been any interest it would be full of kids. Parents and their offspring have stayed away in huge numbers.
