Kent School will be offering arts workshops for young children on three upcoming Saturday mornings.
On January 5, January 26 and February 23, Kent school’s pre-school staff and arts teachers will offer activities in music, physical education, and art respectively from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. There is nocharge and the public is welcome. All activities are designed for children ages six and under. Parents should plan on staying on campus while their children participate. During program breaks the students will have access to the Little School classroom activities and the playground. The Little School teaching staff will be on hand to guide the children.
On Saturday January 5th, Music teacher, Kate Bennett will lead a “Stories and Songs” session in the Kent School library. Kate will entertain and involve children in read aloud stories, singing with musical accompaniment and audience participation.
Next, on January 26, Physical Education teacher, Erin Kent will lead a session that will get kids moving through age appropriate obstacle courses, exercise activities, and active games. “Sometimes it’s hard for any of us to keep moving in the cold winter months. We’ll show kids and their parents fun activities that will keep kids moving and help burn some of that excess winter energy,” said Kent.
Finally on February 23, Art teacher, Theresa Schram will lead the children in an art project. “We’ll provide the tools for the children to make their own masterpieces to bring home. There will be a couple of stations so children can choose which materials they would like to work with to make their art.”
All workshops are planned with several breaks so the children can move around and take advantage of the Little School facilities. Little School director Vivienne Falanga said “We’ve designed these activities with a few goals in mind. First, we always want to create fun and interesting activities for children. We also want to offer a few activities to beat the winter blues. We all tend to stay inside during these cold winter months but we’re offering families a few reasons to come out and enjoy the community. Finally, we want to share the talents of Kent School’s teachers with the community. We are always proud of our commitment to the arts and this is a great way to showcase that.”
