Cindy Brittain’s “Casting Off” is part of RiverArt’s “Unfurling” exhibit opening on october’s First Friday.

Holy Halloween, Robin, it’s October already!  In addition to new exhibits at RiverArts (two exhibits),  the Artists’ Gallery, Hogans, The Collection, and the Kent County Library, the Kent County Historical Society is presenting a War of 1812 History Weekend, Ortiz Studio is hosting Wayne Gilchrest and a poetry reading, there will be music in the Garfield Center’s Kohl Lobby, and a book sale at the library. Other hot spots are Play it Again Sam, Mimi’s Closet,  the Finishing Touch, Doug Ashley and Cross St. Realtors.

Here is a by no means inclusive list of happenings:

Artists’ Gallery: Opening reception for Jonathan Shaw, Wildlife Artist. Known worldwide for his meticulous renderings of wildlife in acrylic and oil, Shaw hunts with his falcon on horseback as in days of old. And yes, the falcon will attend the opening reception. The artist will also be featured at the gallery for Wildlife Weekend on October 19 & 20. Reception 5 to 8 pm. 239 High St.

Kent County Public Library:  OUR ART. Open Studio Class students Nancy Montague, Alice Ritchie, Jane Jacobs, Jean Foreman, Betty Smith, Valerie Anderson, Susie Nuttle, Faith Souder, Chris Reeves and Ann LaClair. The body of work illustrates the principal that art provides a mode of expression for anyone who wishes to share an important aspect of their personality and life.  Open 5 to 8.408 High St.
