First District Democratic candidate Dr. John LaFerla received much praise in endorsements from local Democrats and Senator Ben Cardin at this year’s annual Kennedy-King Dinner in Kent County.
LaFerla accepted the endorsements with easy grace and humility but made it clear he was ready to do battle with Republican incumbent Dr. Andy Harris. He said he and Harris agree on virtually nothing.
“Harris voted 33 times to repeal Obamacare, but I embrace it,” LaFerla said. “And Andy Harris believes he has the vision to know what is right for women’s bodies…but I trust women to make those decisions.”
LaFerla criticized Harris for his failure to help drought stricken farmers and his continued support of corporations that pollute the Chesapeake Bay.
“They’re his business buddies and they give him money,” LaFerla said. “Harris is hypocritical, obstructionist, and he does not represent us.”

Harris hasn’t sponsored any bill to get rid of abortion. First of all, that would require a Constitutional amendment. The only person trying to control people’s bodies is John LaFerla: he wants me to work part of my time every year to support his Federal spending on abortion. I wonder how he would like to have to work for all my causes. He might take issue. And should the government force Catholic nuns to hand out birth control? Shouldn’t those women have freedom over their bodies? We used to have a little tradition around here called the 1st Amendment (Freedom of Religion).

He cosponsored the bill that would have limited abortions in the case of rape to “Forcible Rape”.
It was defeated but he did cosponsor it.
