The Spy spoke with former Congressman Wayne Gilchrest this morning and asked him point blank about his plans to run for Maryland’s First District. Speaking in the Sassafras Environmental Education Center (SEEC) headquarters on Turner’s Creek in Kent County, Gilchrest stated that despite rumors to the contrary, he is not considering a return to politics at this time.
Gilchrest added that in addition to his work in promoting and expanding the SEEC’s environmental educational programs with the Kent County public school system, (he is currently program director for SEEC), future plans include camping in Alaska – running for his former Congressional seat was at the bottom of the list.
Norm Dulak says
That’s too bad. I respected Gilchrest because of his environmental record, and because he was an independent thinker who never felt constrained to blindly follow the party line.
Based on what has happened here and elsewhere, I can only hope that American politics will not degenerate further.
