Washington College’s Center for Environment & Society is sponsoring its annual community Waterfront Festival at Wilmer Park from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2012.
The festival features boating, sailing, and kayaking on the Chester River, river cruises on the Callinectes, live music by the Michael Butler Band, a 5k and half marathon in association with the Chestertown Running Festival, exhibits on watershed ecology and Native American artifacts, Scales & Tales, pony rides, and local food vendors.
A popular highlight of the festival, the sixth annual Cardboard Boat Regatta, begins at 3 p.m., with brave mariners competing for $650 in prizes:
• Cape Horn Award – 1st around the course – $200
• Captain Cook Award – 2nd best circumnavigator – $100
• Robert Peary Award – 3rd across the finish line – $75
• People’s Choice Award – favorite boat – $75
• Cutty Sark Award – best design & construction – $50 gift card to the Imperial Hotel
• Kon-Tiki Award – best theme & costumes – $50 gift card to Lemon Leaf Cafe
• Linda Greenlaw Award – most team spirit – $50 gift card to Evergrain Bakery
• Titanic Award – most spectacular sinking – $50 gift card to Evergrain Bakery
