The town of Betterton invites everyone to come out on Sunday, September 16, from 1 to 3 PM to tour the new Betterton Heritage Museum. The museum, located at 100 Main Street in Betterton, is housed in the Community Center, which was originally the Sacred Heart Church.
One of the highlights of the museum is a wonderful display of new decoys hand carved by Charlie ‘Speed’ Joiner. Charlie will be the guest of honor on this day, and we hope you can join us in a simple celebration of his work. Also on display will be the Betterton Ark, an old skiff, historic pictures and postcards, and a small collection of Betterton memorabilia. If you ever spent time in Betterton, this museum is sure to bring back some fond memories !

A well deserved honor for Kent County’s nationally recognized and acclaimed decoy carver. Congratulations!
Kevin Shertz says
Very nice! I am so happy to hear Charlie Joiner is receiving this honor.
My father, Paul W. Shertz, has been a wildlife illustrator for many years and Charlie Joiner is one of those people — alongside other nationally known carvers such as Madison Mitchell, Lem and Steve Ward, and Evans McKinney — whose names I’ve had burned in my brain since I was a wee lad of six or seven back in the 70s spending countless weekends at various decoy and wildlife shows, including the Chestertown and Easton Wildlife festivals alongside the numerous ones in my own Cecil County.
It’s only as I get older that I realize how fortunate I was to meet and know so many of these carvers in my lifetime.
