Is the new Wi-Fi on High available now? How do we connect?
S Pennington says
I wonder how they’re going to keep downtown residents and businesses from dropping their paid service and using the free wifi instead? While free is a great concept, in practice it’s highly likely to be abused.
Kevin Shertz says
Ever logged in to a free WiFi hotspot in an airport? I expect it will be a similar experience.
There’s a difference between convenience and necessity. I’m guessing the throughput will be fine for checking one’s email when in Fountain Park on an occasional basis, but unlikely to fulfill the needs of anyone requiring a real connection to the Internet.
Abigail says
Yes, is there a website or newsletter explaining the new WiFi? How far is the range?
Steve Payne says
The signal is quite strong. I got full strength up near the mailboxes and also down by Stam Hall. It’s just not connected to an internet service provider yet. There is going to be another one down by the river too.
Like Kevin says, if there going to be a problem it will most likely be how good and fast the router is and how much bandwidth the ISP will allow.
Alex Smolens says
I wouldn’t hold your breath. It’s been several weeks away for about what…8 months?
Bruce Valliant says
Sort of like the Eastern Shore fiber project. It’s there but doesn’ do much.
