Worton- KCHS Drama Club, ITS Troupe #7153, and the KCHS Brigade of Blue Band proudly present the musical, “Little Shop of Horrors,” a production that features a flesh eating plant, do-wop music, and a man who gets more than he bargains for.
“Little Shop of Horrors,” directed by Mrs. Melissa Walters, will have performances in the Kent County High School Auditorium on March 2 & 3 @ 7pm and March 4 @ 2pm.
The production features a cast of talented students, a pit band conducted by Dr. Keith Wharton, and a stage crew led by Mrs. Cheryl Bachmann.
The musical follows the life of Seymour Krelborn, a floral assistant on Skid Row, who purchases an exotic plant. As Seymour seeks the affection of his lovely coworker, Audrey, he also battles for control over his increasingly bloodthirsty plant, Audrey
II. The plant quickly grows beyond what Krelborn imagined and turns into a bad mannered, R&B singing carnivore. Audrey II gives greedy Krelborn his 15 minutes of fame, but he soon realizes he bit off more than he could chew.
“Little Shop of Horrors” was the third longest running musical on Broadway in the 1980s. Music is by composer Alan Menken and script by Howard Ashman. In 1986, Warner Brothers produced a film version directed by Frank Oz.
The musical has been described as a “horticultural horror (that) will have you screaming with laughter” (New York Post) and “Giddy, irresistible entertainment” (Women’s Wear Daily).
The musical is filled with a cast of talented students. The cast includes Michael Jenkins (“Seymour,”); Nikki Litton and Brianne Redman (“Audrey”); Ian Ellison (“Mushnik”); Brad Chaires (“Orin”, “Audrey II”); and Toddy Frazier, Keira Burke and Charmane Judd as the soul-singing trio.
