After months of construction, the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre is finally ready to reopen its doors and show off its newly renovated Kohl Lobby, as well as its new name. The celebration begins Friday, September 30th at 6pm with an open house,
mayoral ribbon cutting, and a free block party with music by the Bay Country Gentlemen. The highlight of the weekend will be the black tie Grand Opening Gala on Saturday, October 1st from 6:30pm to 10:30pm, featuring a concert by John Davidson. Pre-concert cocktails will be available, and dessert and champagne will be served at intermission, followed by a post-concert meet and greet with John Davidson.
Don’t know who John Davidson is? Sure you do. He’s been on TV, on the big screen, on Broadway, even in print, as a fashion model. He has appeared in several television shows, including the original Hollywood Squares, The Ed Sullivan Show, The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, Love Boat, Fantasy Island and The Girl with Something Extra. He has hosted his own TV show, The John Davidson Show, from 1980 to 1982, as well as Hollywood Squares, The Tonight Show and the $100,000 Pyramid. He has lent his acting talents to such movies as Edward Scissorhands, The Happiest Millionaire, The Squeeze and Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders II. In addition to acting, John Davidson is also a talented singer who has recorded twelve albums and performed in various musicals, and he will be adding his vocal skills to the Prince Theatre’s reopening celebration.
The block party and open house on Friday night, September 30th are free, but tickets are required for the Gala on Saturday, October 1st. General Seating is $75.00, and Preferred Seating (first 3 rows downstairs and first row of the balcony) is $125.00. Since the Gala’s expenses are completely underwritten by support from Matt & Marie Garfield and PNC bank, all of the funds raised by ticket sales will benefit the Garfield Center’s general operations. Pssst…..the cocktail party before the Davidson concert will be delectable!!! Sumptuous food – open bars – and Dick Durham on the piano! So come with an appetite and celebrate our new beginnings!! Dessert and champagne will merely be the “icing” on the cake!!
