On Saturday, April 9th, the Kent School Gymnasium was transformed into an Italian Garden, and served as the venue for Kent School’s annual fundraising auction. Over 200 guests attended “Under the Tuscan Stars” in support of the students and faculty of Kent School. The event featured over 200 silent auction items donated by local and national businesses, families and generous individuals. The live auction featured an exciting assortment of trips, original art and unique experiences. Fortunate bidders went home with front and center seating at the upcoming U2 concert in Baltimore, hotel stays in Venice and Florence, Italy and Beaver Creek, Colorado. The item generating the most buzz and significant revenue was the opportunity to cut Math teacher Doug Pfaff’s 24” pony tail. The lucky high bidder will do the honors on Friday, April 29th, after which Mr. Pfaff will donate his long locks to Locks of Love.
“Under the Tuscan Stars” proved to be one of our most successful auctions ever, netting the school over $70,000. “Everything came together nicely this year with the crowd enjoying good company, a terrific band and a great meal catered by Jeff Carroll’s Fish Whistle,” said Tricia Cammerzell, Director of Development at Kent School. She continued, “Planning our annual auction takes months, and none of it would be possible without the army of volunteers, donors and bidders who ensure our success. It is very fulfilling to work with such a dedicated group.”
“Under the Tuscan Stars” featured a special fundraising initiative in support of Kent School’s new library which is scheduled for construction beginning in May. “The support for this initiative was overwhelming,” said Interim Headmaster, Peter Cowen. “Guests were inspired to participate by an anonymous donor who pledged a two-for-one match up to a pre-designated amount. Donors raised their bid cards to the tune of nearly $31,000, securing the full match. Each donor is helping us construct and furnish a top-quality library that each member of our community will enjoy in the coming school year and for years to come. It was a thrill to be a part of that enthusiasm.”
The auction committee is already looking forward to next year’s event which will be held on March 31, 2012. For more information about “Under the Tuscan Stars” or any other facet of Kent School, visit www.kentschool.org or call 410-778-4100.
