Atlantic Security Inc. is pleased to announce that it now has its Osprey Cam in place and ready to share with the public. The Osprey Cam is set above an osprey nest in the waters of Maryland’s Eastern Shore and enables viewers to watch the life of the ospreys in real time high definition video streaming. The ospreys arrived in Mid March and are currently preparing the nest for the eggs, which could appear anytime within the coming weeks.
Ospreys are among the largest birds of prey in North America and are found on every continent in the world except for Antarctica. Their primary diet of fish dictates their habitat, which is mainly near water sources such as coastal waterways, rivers, lakes and ponds. The Chesapeake Bay region provides an excellent home for the ospreys.
Ospreys mate for life, and tend to return to the same nest year after year. Once the eggs are laid, the incubation period is approximately 30- 40 days. The eggs will hatch in the order in which they were laid, one to four days apart. An osprey typically lays 2-4 eggs, although it is not uncommon for one or more of the eggs not to hatch. Once hatched, the chicks grow rapidly and will be ready to fledge at eight weeks of age.
The Osprey Cam of 2010 was a huge hit, literally, with tens of thousands of viewers world wide who logged on to view the daily life and antics of the ospreys and their young. The greatest number of hits occurred on the days that the chicks were hatching, and the days that they were learning to fly.
This year Atlantic Security Inc has created a new osprey dedicated web page which features the live camera, as well as information on ospreys, how the osprey cam came about and multiple photos of the birds from previous years. You can visit the page at https://www.osprey.atlanticsecurityinc.com/
ASI does ask that viewers be respectful of the amount of time that they leave the web page open, stating that “While we pride ourselves in community service, the bandwidth does have a cost. We thank you for your understanding and truly hope that you enjoy the 2011 Atlantic Security Osprey Camera.”

Thank you Atlantic Security for letting us Osprey watch once again. Of course the birds make it hard to get anything else done.

Enjoying watching the Ospreys. However, I’ve tried to make a comment on the website with no luck. I wanted to point out that the egg was laid sometime between April PM and April 30 Am. I saw it the morning of April 30 ,not May 1st.
