Spy Chat: Congressman Andy Harris

August 11, 2014 by Dave Wheelan

Share

Perhaps not unlike his former life as a physician with patient consultations, Congressman Andy Harris schedules short 15 minute segments for press interviews. And like most doctors pushing through a day of appointments, he talks quickly about the patient’s condition and options.

In this case, we are talking about the illness of legislative gridlock and the consequences for the country in having bicameralism on Capitol Hill. In his Spy interview in Easton last week, Dr. Harris addresses issues related to government paralysis, including the recent failure to find a bipartisan response to the recent flood of children crossing into the US, and examples of where he has found common ground with House Democrats since he arrived in the House in 2011. The Congressman also highlights where he and the Republican-controlled House of Representatives have made a positive difference for the nation.

Congressman Harris will face Democrat Bill Tilghman in the November election for 1st Congressional District.

This interview is approximately ten minutes in length

Thank you for showing us this interview of Rep. Andy Harris. I find the Congressman totally out of touch with issues we consider essential in District 1 and an impossible person with whom to converse. He never listens. He has no curiosity, interest in the environment (view his votes on the Farm Bill, EPA research budget, and many other national legislative actions), or understanding/empathy for his constituents who struggle to find reasonable ways forward. Life IS a compromise. I’ve attended his symbolically short “town meetings” on the Eastern Shore. It’s useless to try to get through to Andy Harris. The Eastern Shore — our home — deserves better representation.
