Queen Anne’s County Arts Council and Centre for the Arts will hold a public reception for a judged art exhibit “Animals, Wild and Domestic” on Friday, February 5 from 5:30-7:30.

A cash prize will be awarded to overall best in show at the exhibit opening as well as three other prizes. The Judge for the show is Robert Koenke. Robert J. Koenke is a member of the American Society of Appraisers and has extensive experience in the art world.

His specialty is sporting, western, wildlife and American art.

The Queen Anne’s County Arts Council has awarded Community Arts Development Grants to several local organizations to support their efforts to provide art experiences in the Mid Shore region.  Grants were awarded to the Mid Shore Symphony, Partners for Youth, Chesapeake College Todd Performing Arts Theatre, QAC Free Library, Queen Anne’s Chorale, QAC Office of Tourism, and the Kent Island Federation of Arts.  The Arts Council has been making grant awards since 1984 that support art programming, performances, and operational expenses to community organizations.  Approximately one-half million dollars has been awarded to date.

Executive Director, Belinda Cook says of the program, “Providing financial support to community organizations for arts related activities broadens opportunities for meaningful experiences.  These organizations are a vital link in establishing a vibrant arts community.   I am thrilled the Arts Council can play an important supportive role”.  “We look for opportunities to partner with these and other groups to reach a greater audience.  Finding ways to combine efforts is always a win for the community”, Cook went on to say.

Community Arts Development Grants are awarded each year to local community organizations to support performances, art programs, and operational expenses.  Applications are reviewed and recommended by an independent grant panel that includes members of the Arts Council’s Board of Directors and members of the arts community. Programming, outreach, and artistic excellence are all considerations for determining awards. The grant program is supported in part by the Maryland State Arts Council and the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners.

Pam Ortiz is that rare songwriter who can touch people where they feel deeply, where they laugh and where they cry. In addition to Pam on vocals and guitar, the band includes her husband Bob Ortiz, on percussion and guitar, Ford Schumann on guitar, Nevin Dawson on viola and violin and Philip Dutton on piano and keyboards. Her songs and her stories, with her signature clear voice, turn of phrase and melody speak to who we are, what we’ve won and lost and how we love and live.
