Creating ‘Arts in Motion” for Kent County Students with Gina Jachimowicz and Tom McHugh

For the record, it seems like Kent County Public Schools Gina Jachimowicz and Mainstay founder Tom McHugh have been in partnership for years. Well before Tom joined Gina recently to support a unique initiative that connects Kent County artists and musicians with students at all grade levels this year, Gina had convinced Tom over a decade ago to help a small school production of the hit Annie, where Tom not only found funds to stage the musical but agreed to join the cast, which included with his daughter Julia, as Daddy Warbucks.

Fast forward to 2016 and these co-conspirators are at it again. With the support of the Kent County School Board, its superintendent, and regional artists, Tom and Gina have now combined forces again to launch “Arts in Motion” through the support of a John Ben Snow grant to create local art mentoring programs, student spotlight projects and bringing in national talents to inspire young people to pursue the arts.

The Spy sat down with Gina and Tom at the Customs House last week to get to know the program in more detail.
