There was a very historical moment at the Mainstay late Sunday afternoon. Tom McHugh made his final farewell with the last concert under his direction. But in typical McHughian fashion, he quickly put the spotlight on his friend, Meredith Davies Hadaway, rather than focus on the end of his tenure.
Hadaway, who was performing for Tom’s final concert with her Harp & Soul Ensemble, was selected on Thursday as the 2015 Delmarva Book Prize winner for creative writing for her poetry collection At the Narrows, and Tom honored this particular historic moment by reciting one of her poems to the packed performance center in Rock Hall.
Meredith responded in kind with her performance with Harp & Soul. Joining her was Ben Bennington on guitar and vocals, Rebekah Hardy on oboe, Bob Ortiz on percussion and Nevin Dawson on viola. They were later joined by jazz vocalist Sue Matthews and singer/songwriter Pam Ortiz.
The Spy captured a few highlights of the Holiday performance.
