Noted political journalist Matt Bai will discuss tabloid politics and the influence of social media on government when he visits Washington College on Monday, September 28, for a 7:00 p.m. talk titled “All the Truth is Out: Character and the Presidential Campaign.” The event will take place in Hynson Lounge, Hodson Hall, and is free and open to the public.
Bai’s recent book All the Truth is Out: The Week Politics Went Tabloid describes in vivid detail how media coverage of Senator Gary Hart’s affair dramatically changed the relationship between American politicians and the media. It was named a 2014 “Great Read” on NPR.
Bai has been one of the most prominent voices in American political journalism and analysis for more than a decade.Now the national political columnist for Yahoo! News, he also has been the chief political correspondent for The New York Times Magazine and a national correspondent for Newsweek. His 2007 book, The Argument: Billionaires, Bloggers and the Battle to Remake Democratic Politics, was a New York Times Notable Book. Bai’s upcoming talk is sponsored by the Louis L. Goldstein Program in Public Affairs. He last visited Washington College in 2012, when he shared the stage with the late journalist and author Richard Ben Cramer as part of the “Anatomy of an Election” series.
