At the Garfield Center for the Arts at the Prince Theatre, playwrights, directors and actors who delight in the art of the 10-minute play are at it again. Short Attention Span Theatre offers an evening of 10-minute plays, designed to hold your attention for “Just. Long. Enough.” The plays feature a marvelous multitude of actors, directors and authors, as well as the world premiere of original works by local playwrights.
Produced by Short Attention Span Theatre regulars Lucia Foster, Jim Landskroener and Mark Sullivan (executive producer), this year’s selections run from the thought-provoking to the absurd. Topics range from Love & Jealousy to Shakespeare & Baseball to Astronomy & Pancakes. The production involves more than 40 people, including local playwrights premiering works this year – Steve Arnold, Paul Briggs, Tia Glomb, Mark Sullivan and Keith Thompson. Local theatre veterans Anna Black, Chelsea Clough, Patrick Fee, Lucia Foster, Jen Friedman, Jim & Diane Landskroener, Kelsy Long, and John Mann among many, many others grace the stage.
The show features folks from their teens to their 60’s. We have teachers and students and builders and engineers and accountants and more! These are 40 of your friends, neighbors and co-workers who come together to create one unified production out of many moving parts. It’s a marvelous, crazy and slightly miraculous thing to behold from behind the scenes – and is sure to provide you with belly laughs and plenty of material for interesting post-show conversations with your fellow theatergoers.
The curtain goes up at the Garfield Center, 210 High St., at 8 p.m. for evenings of quick delightful entertainment on June 21, 22, 28 and 29. Matinee performances are set for 3 p.m. June 23 and June 30.
All ticket holders are welcome to return for the June 30 performance, which will include a “talk-back” with playwrights, directors and actors immediately following the show.
As an appetizer for Short Attention Span Theatre, at 7:15pm on the Friday and Saturday performances, Hey! Wait a Minute! – a series of one-minute plays – will be performed in the lobby. This is the inaugural year of Hey! Wait a Minute! which is directed by Tess Hogans, and produced by Mark Sullivan. Actors Melody Bishop, Anna Black, Reilly Cox and Tess Hogans will storm through a rollicking selection of one-minute plays.
