Delmarva power announced yesterday that new power rates approved by the Maryland Public Service Commission are in effect as of July 8, bringing the average monthly cost up a little under $2 per household that uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours per month.
The 1.4 percent increase is needed to cover the rising costs of fuel and to “improve reliability and support investment in new technology,” according to Delmarva Power’s website.
The increase will generate an additional $12 million in revenue for the utility.
