It certainly the case with most art museums of any significance that the demographic that makes up their board of directors is a very rarefied group. Some are artists, some are collectors, and others are long-term art lovers, but rarely do they have anyone under the age of 40.
So when the Academy Art Museum appointed Kentavius Jones to its board a few months ago, it was a sure indication that the museum was eager to attract a new generation to its art exhibitions and art education programs. Jones, an accomplished musician and local advocate for the arts on the Mid-Shore, was a natural selection.
This also had an impact on Kentavius. He also found himself thinking hard on how to bring his peers, and even younger people, to downtown Easton and the Academy.
This weekend the community will see his first attempts to reach a new audience through the four-day recording session he and his musical colleagues using the Academy’s dance studio to produce an album for future production. Through an IndieGoGo campaign as well.
The Spy caught up with Kentavius at the Academy earlier this morning to get a short overview of this exciting new art project.
This video is approximately two minutes in length. PDA will be in operation from December 17 – December 20. Dec 17 at 10 AM to Dec 20 at 4 PM. For more information about Academy Art Museum’s PDA project, please go ” target=”_blank”>here.
