Checking in with Colchester Farm and Board President-Elect Marcia Landskroener

October 28, 2016 by Dave Wheelan

Share

The Spy was surprised to note the other day that it has been over seven years since we caught up with our favorite community-supported agriculture farm, Colchester Farms, located on the outskirts of Georgetown. Perhaps, like many good causes and organizations in Kent County, we might have simply taken Colchester for granted during this time since they remain one of few great constants in the ever-evolving food scene in and around Chestertown.

Nonetheless, when we heard word that Washington College’s director of communications, Marcia Landskroener, had been chosen to lead the farm’s board of directors for the next three years, we were reminded once again how special this asset is to our community.

Marcia, a native Kent Countian, with family ties with the area going back centuries, was an inspired choice for Colchester. Beyond her passion for local food, Marcia also comes to her volunteer position with over thirty years of marketing and communications experience at WC, including being editor of its award-winning alumni magazine.

The Spy caught up with Marcia in her Bunting Hall office a few weekends ago to hear first hand of Marcia’s family tradition of summer gardens, the simplicity of the CSA model, and a few early thoughts on what will be the next steps for this popular and highly respected food source for the Mid-Shore.

This video is approximately five minutes in length. For more information about Colchester Farms, please go here
