November 1 Is Deadline for Women & Girls Fund Grant Applications

September 20, 2016 by Women & Girls Fund

Share

The Women & Girls Fund of the Mid-Shore, a field-of-interest endowment with the Mid-Shore Community Foundation, is now accepting grant proposals from IRS-designated non-profit organizations for programs addressing the needs of women and girls throughout the five-county region. Completed applications are due in the Fund office by November 1, 2016. Grant recipients will be announced at the Fund’s annual award and grants luncheon in April, 2017.

Since its founding in 2002, the Fund has awarded more than $450,000 to 77 non-profit organizations in Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne, and Talbot counties.

In 2016, 13 grants were given for a wide variety programs such as: Chesapeake College’s Paralegal Studies program; Critchlow Adkins Children’s Centers’ after school program, “Girls Also Like STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math”; For All Seasons Behavioral Health & Rape Crisis Center’s Hispanic/Latino Parenting Groups; Habitat for Humanity Choptank’s “Women Build” program; and, Talbot County Extension Office’s “Annie’s Project”, the local branch of a national program designed to empower women in agriculture to network and learn about overall farm management.

Susan Wilford, a Women & Girls Fund board member who co-chairs the Grants Committee along with Emily Lynn and Beth Spurry, shared the committee’s purpose: “We are interested in receiving applications from organizations representing all five counties. No organization should be reluctant to apply. We give strong attention to specialized needs and innovative programs for which other funding sources might not exist. We are pleased to have helped a number of small projects get started and go on to be successful ongoing programs.”
