Director Bonnie Hill has assembled a stellar cast for GCA’s October production of Edward Albee’s Pulitzer Prize – winning play, “A Delicate Balance”. First produced in 1966, this dark drawing room comedy has often been credited with creating an archetype for American drama with a classical study of the American family, albeit a dysfunctional one.
Mary Watko and Tim Maloney play Agnes and Tobias, an older married couple, seemingly content with their upper class suburban lifestyle. Agnes’s alcoholic sister Claire, portrayed by Catherine Bushby, lives with them, and, except for an occasional outburst, the three of them maintain a comfortable “balance” in the home. Over the course of a weekend, their complacency is shattered by the return of daughter Julia, played by Heather Oland, and the unexpected arrival of their best friends Harry and Edna, played by David Ryan and Lynn McLain, none of whom plan to leave!
” A Delicate Balance” opens on Friday, October 14th and runs through the 23rd, with performances at 8PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and 3PM on Sunday afternoons. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students and can be purchased online at www.garfieldcenter.org or by calling the Box office at 410-810-2060. A talk with the Director and Actors is scheduled after the Sunday performance on October 16th.
