The one thing local author Ann Hymes promised herself after completing her first novel a few years ago was that she refused to self-publish the work. While a “vanity press” job was a tempting option for Hymes, her training as an author and student of writing told her that without outside validation from a third party publisher, she would prefer her book sit in a file cabinet.
And over the next few years, Ann accepted that fate for Shadow Of Whimsy until bumping into Ron Sauder, Editor & Publisher of Secant Publishing in Salisbury at an Eastern Shore Writers Conference last year. Sauder immediately took an interest in the book and the novel has just been released this summer.
In her Spy interview, the retired real estate broker talks about the book’s themes, including the lead character struggling with her marriage, many unfulfilled needs, and buried family secrets in Chatham on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. Ann also talks about her lifelong love of writing and her determination to have her work accepted.
This video is approximately four minutes in length. Ann will read and sign books in a local launch party at the St. Michaels branch of the Talbot County Free Library on Thursday, July 14 at 6 p.m. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and light refreshments will be served.
