Ribbon Cutting Opens Chestertown’s Gateway Park

May 11, 2016 by Town of Chestertown

Share

The official ribbon cutting ceremony for Gateway Park was held at noon on Saturday, May 7. Chestertown’s newest park, formerly a truck storage yard, is located on upper High Street near the Morgnec Road traffic circle. After Mayor Cerino cut the ribbon, and before he joined the Bayside HOYAS for a game of basketball on the new court, he thanked the nonprofit group for agreeing to be citizen caretakers of the park.

Cerino also thanked the Town employees and current and former Council members whose years of planning and preparation had helped to transform the gravel lot into a recreational area featuring a basketball court, native landscaping, picnic tables and ADA-accessible trail.  Funding for Gateway Park was provided by the Department of Natural Resources Community Parks & Playgrounds Program, Town of Chestertown, and Maryland Department of Transportation Bikeways Program.

Love the HOYAS and what they are doing for the kids in our town! And thanks to Mayor Cerino and the town council for putting the effort to make this a great spot for our kids to come together, play, and build community of their own. Bravo all around!
