For the record, there are three major institutions in the town of Chestertown. The first is Washington College, the second is the local hospital, and the third is Dick Goodall.
While presidents of the college have come and gone, as has the leadership of the Chester River hospital, Dick Goodall, and, by extension, Dixon Valve, the company he owns, has been the community’s “steady eddie” private sector partner for 50 years. The maker of speciality industrial valves and tools, Dixon, unlike so many other manufacturers in this country, has consistently and creatively beaten the odds in a competitive global economy and has thrived.
That is one of many reasons that when Dick Goodall has something to say, the community listens. And over the last few years, he has not held back on bringing to the forefront issues like the state of the county’s public schools, the region’s economic development, or his personal cause to reinsert character as a value to be taught to young people.
In his Spy interview, Dick talks about those issues as well as the future of the town’s hospital, the status of Kent Forward, a nonprofit organization he created to support public education and economic development in the county, and his firm belief that collaboration, cooperation and volunteerism is the only way Kent County can have a future in the 21st Century.

A wonderful interview. Uplifting. Dick Goodall’s contributions to Kent County and Chestertown are immeasurable. This is the kind of news that rarely gets coverage. Thank you, Dave. Thank you, Dick.

A true leader in every sense of the word. I only wish we had someone like Dick Goodall running for President of the U.S. at this time. We need a leader that has the character traits that he lives by each day. He is a reflection of what we saw in the great leaders that founded this country. I have know him for over 35 years and consider him a friend and hope he feels the same way about me. The community is fortunate to have him live her and to work and care so much for the well being of the rest of us who live here.

Dick Goodall is truly an asset to this community giving of his time, talent, and resources. However Dick would still be an asset , if he only walked
the streets of Chestertown with his great big smile and his cheerful Good Morning. What a guy. Thanks.
